I know it's been a while since I have blogged. Having a baby who can't sleep more than an hour at a time has consumed my entire life in every aspect. I feel like I am constantly running around in circles, not remembering what I was running for because I am sleep deprived and my mind is eternally consumed with trying to figure out what is wrong with my precious boy. People tell you that it's tough adjusting to the sleep schedule of a newborn since they are up every 1-2 hours. Well...here it is almost 10 months later and we are still coping with that sleep pattern. It is even worse though because I know deep in my heart Kaden is waking up because he is in pain and it kills me that I haven't been able to help him. (He wakes up screaming, arching, wet burping and can't get comfortable) His vulnerability has never seemed easy for me to adapt to. I guess as parents that is just part of our job. You would think after surviving the NICU experience I would be stronger when it comes to things like this...but it seems as these little things pop up (like his hernia surgury, etc.) I have a harder time coping and just feel so weak on the inside. I guess it never gets easier to see your baby hurt.
I don't know if I blogged much about this but as a quick update... Kaden has had tummy troubles since we brought him home. Supposedly he had colic and then reflux and was put on Prevacid. The Prevacid didn't seem to do much..and he didn't spit up anymore than a typical baby would... so in my mind, I concluded that reflux wasn't the problem. Then Kaden was teething so of course everyone thought he wasn't sleeping well because of his teeth (he has another tooth coming in on top! He's growing up sooo fast!) When he still wasn't sleeping, Kyle and I assumed that we must be teaching him bad sleep habits so we tried everything (except crying it out) and still no luck. In my gut, all along I have felt that something more is going on with him. I finally listened to myself and addressed it again with the pediatrician (who completely listened to me and didn't question me at all!) He talked with both a pediatric GI and a neurologist. My gut has told me that Kaden is suffering from silent reflux...or something in his upper GI.... but the doc also mentioned that he could be having something going on neurologically (like seizures in his sleep). I hope and wish that none of the above would be the case. I guess I kept ignoring my instinct and pushing those thoughts aside because in my heart I was praying and hoping that it would go away in time. I can't stand seeing him in pain anymore and not sleeping so this Wednesday, we are finally seeing a pediatric GI. I will keep you updated and prayers are gladly welcomed!!
On a happier note....Kaden and I are back out in the world and loving it! He is such a happy, social little guy. Kyle, Grammy Tess, Kaden and I all drove up to Oregon and spent 6 days with Kyle's family and friends. Kaden was finally able to meet so many of his relatives. We all had the best time and Kaden was quite the party animal! He doesn't like to miss a thing and even when he is sooo sleep deprived he just keeps going and going with a smile on his face (unless of course he's hungry!) We spent a few days in Newport and went crabbing and played on the beach. We also went to the aquarium. Many great memories were made and the time went by way too fast. If only we could have all of our loved ones within an arms reach.
